The Government of India approved and launched the ambitious Ayushman Bharat – National Health Protection Mission (AB-NHPM) a free health care protection scheme. The scheme was announced by the union Finance Minister Shree Arun Jeitly during annual budget 2018-19 and got a go ahead from the central cabinet. Now the Ayushman Bharat scheme will be implemented through out the country and will provide health care protection cover of ₹5 lakh to over 10 crore poor and vulnerable families in the country.
The Ayushman Bharat – National Health Protection Mission (AB-NHPM) will combine all the health care scheme by funded by the center including popular schemes such as Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) and the Senior Citizen Health Insurance Scheme (SCHIS). The center government will provide 60% funds for the Ayushman Bharat Yojana where as 40% funds will be provided by the state government.

- People from poor and vulnerable families only can apply
- Residents of only those states who have adopted to Ayushman Bharat scheme can apply for the scheme
